Cheesecake from the Cheesecake Wizard

Cheesecake. If you like cheesecake, chances are you really like cheesecake. If you don't like cheesecake, maybe this will change your mind.

And if you're lactose intolerant, I apologize in advance.

Cheesecake in Halifax has, as it has been everywhere, offered as a delightful dessert at finer restaurants and pubs everywhere. Folks who remember "La Cave" in Halifax are now drooling (as am I) at the memory of their cheescakes. Even though La Cave's went out of business somewhere around 2005-2006 area (their website was last captured by the Wayback Machine in early 2005), googling for "la cave halifax" will find you many, many examples of the decadence that was La Cave.

At the Halifax Seaport Farmer's Market, a very inconspicuous booth sits in the middle of the floor, with a plain white fridge and a glass display case. It's manned by "The Wizard", better known as Shawn Peck, who is without a single doubt the prime minister of all things cheesecake in Halifax and beyond. How can such praise be justified, you ask? If you're still drooling over the thought of La Cave's cheesecake, it was The Wizard who was - and still is - making them.

Yes, you read that right. If your eyelid starts to twitch just thinking about the taste of a slice of La Cave cheesecake, you can now get your fix down on the Halifax waterfront. The Wizard is at the market only on Saturdays, and only with a limited supply of his magic. More than once a visit to the market late in the day yields nothing except sadness and a sign saying "Sold out!" - the early bird really does get the cheesecake!

Many people who are reading this are likely thinking "Hmm. Cheesecake. Cheesecake is just cheesecake, right?" and its just not that simple where The Wizard is involved. Having shipped cheesecake to Buckingham Palace - yes, you read that right, read the HalifaxNewsNet article - this cheesecake is both a texture and flavour assault on everything you think you know about cheesecake. Flavours like Turtles, White Chocolate Pistachio, Magical Black Forrest, Curried Mango & Baileys and my personal favorite Chocolate Peanut Butter Paradise ... every one of them has completely wiped all rational thought from my mind with the first bite, leaving me wondering how it could possibly be better than the last slice I had.

If you'll excuse me I have to stop writing about cheesecake. I'm so hungry at this point that even the neighbor's dog is looking tasty.
