Maybe its just my perspective, maybe it's really true. Either way from where I sit my mom was an awesome cook.
Here's a recipe mom used to make for florentine bars. They're always a hit wherever they went, they aren't hard to make, and the only way you might be able to make them better is by adding bacon. Not that I would ever encourage that.
Unfortunately, many of these recipes are on paper, since mom wasn't computer-enabled. While I plan to re-type many of them, uploading them as images is almost as good.
