Dartmouth South's Burger Bonanaza

If you find yourself in Dartmouth with a craving for a really good burger, there's (currently) one place you should head first. Cheesecurds serves up gourmet burgers and poutine, and while you might think that "gourmet" and "poutine" or "burgers" don't belong in the same sentence, Cheesecurds will prove you wrong.

When Cheesecurds first bestowed their amazing burgers upon the public, they had 8 staff and a single unit out of the strip mall they're located in. I first visited 3 weeks after that, when they had 26 staff, had just finished doubling the size of their kitchen, and taking over another unit in the strip mall just to hold stock. Yes, you read that right, three times the staff, and double the floor space in under a month.

Now, I'm going to be deadly honest here - Cheesecurds is not for the faint of heart. The lineup starts before they open, and stays pretty much full on until they close. The Saturday evening that found me there, the wait in line to get a burger was approximately - hold on to your hat - 2 hours. Was it worth it? Every single minute.

Most places have standard burger toppings, ketchup, mustard, relish, mayo, cheese, lettuce, tomato and perhaps even a few others if you're lucky. Cheesecurds has a few others - mango chutney, guacamole, capers, red onions, white onions, pickled onions, onion jam, sauerkraut, salsa, bruschetta, soya bean sprouts, sour cream, cranberry sauce, banana peppers, jalapeño peppers, olives, hummus, dill pickles, cucumbers, pickled carrot and ginger, honey dijon mustard, cilantra, arugula and mixed greens. Is your mouth watering yet?

Their signature burger is the "CC Porker", a double burger topped with cheese curds, 2 strips of bacon, fried onion rings, lettuce, tomato and topped with CC sauce. When you read the word "porker", you're probably thinking about something fairly large, and you're not wrong. The CC Porker is one big burger, capable of defeating most burger lovers with the greatest of ease. It's very juicy without being overly fatty, has a very in-your-face beef flavor, and will leave you wanting more, but being too full to stomach it.

In all honesty, their burger was so top shelf that it completely outshone their amazing poutine. I am going to have to return and just have poutine so I can properly enjoy it without the distraction of their heavenly burgers.

If you have the time, Cheesecurds has the burgers.
